Helicopter Approach Path Indicator HAPI light HAPI system

Detailed introduction

The Helicopter Approach Path Indicator (HAPI) light and HAPI system are crucial tools for ensuring safe helicopter operations.

The HAPI system is designed to provide clear visual guidance to helicopter pilots during approach and landing. It consists of a series of lights that are strategically placed to mark the ideal approach path. The HAPI lights are highly visible, even in low visibility conditions, and are designed to be easily distinguishable from other lights on the ground.

The HAPI light typically emits a bright, steady or flashing light that can be seen from a distance. The color and pattern of the light are carefully chosen to ensure maximum visibility and to distinguish it from other lights in the area. Some HAPI systems may also include additional features such as variable intensity settings or color changes to provide more detailed information to pilots.

The HAPI system is particularly useful in areas where there are limited visual cues or where the terrain is complex. It helps pilots to maintain a safe approach path and to avoid obstacles such as power lines, buildings, or mountains. By providing clear visual guidance, the HAPI system reduces the risk of accidents and enhances the safety of helicopter operations.

In addition to its safety benefits, the HAPI system can also improve operational efficiency. By providing a consistent and reliable approach path, it can help to reduce flight times and fuel consumption. This can be especially important for commercial operations or in emergency situations where time is of the essence.

Overall, the Helicopter Approach Path Indicator light and HAPI system are essential tools for ensuring safe and efficient helicopter operations. They provide clear visual guidance to pilots and help to reduce the risk of accidents and improve operational efficiency.

The angle of elevation setting of HAPI must be such that during approach the pilot of the helicopter observing the upper boundary of the “Below Slope” sector (Fix Red) clear all objects in the approach area by a safe margin.

The Helicopter Approach Path Indicator HAPI System which emit in elevation four distinct types of light :

1. Flashing Green Light = Helicopter above the optimal approach slope optimum (too high).

2. Fix Green Light = Helicopter on the slope.

3. Fix Red Light = Helicopter slightly below the optimal slope (slightly too low).

4. Flashing Red Light = Helicopter below the optimal slope (too low).

     Compliance:

1. ICAO Annex 14 Volume II Heliports 5.3.

2. FAA  AC 150/5390-2A Heliport Design Guide

     Features:

1. Utilize super bright brand LEDs, offering high intensity while consuming less energy.

2. The input voltage is available in either DC (12 - 48V DC) or AC (100 - 265V AC, 50 - 60Hz).

3. The clear polycarbonate lens converges light and also provides corrosion resistance and UV protection.

4. The efficient photometric design offers excellent light distribution, ensuring it meets the requirements of ICAO and FAA.

5. The housing material is stainless steel, which has strong corrosion resistance and provides protection against shock and vibrations.

6. The UV-protected powder-coated bright yellow base enhances visibility.

7. The fragile coupling effectively reduces secondary damage to helicopters.

     Applications:

Helicopter Approach Path Indicator HAPI light AO-HP-HAPI is used to glide slope on final approach to the helipad, it needs to use with other helipad light. Offshore or Onshore heliport both can use.

The Helicopter Approach Path Indicator (HAPI) light and HAPI system play a crucial role in ensuring safe helicopter operations.

The HAPI system is designed to provide clear visual guidance to helicopter pilots during approach and landing. It consists of a series of lights that are strategically placed along the intended approach path. The HAPI lights are highly visible, even in low visibility conditions, and help pilots maintain the correct flight path.

One of the main applications of the HAPI system is at heliports and airports with helicopter operations. It helps pilots navigate safely through congested airspace and avoid obstacles. The lights can be adjusted to different intensities and colors to suit various environmental conditions and visibility requirements.

In addition to providing visual guidance, the HAPI system can also be integrated with other navigation and communication systems. This allows for more accurate positioning and communication between pilots and air traffic control.

The HAPI light is a key component of the system. It emits a bright, focused beam of light that is easily visible from a distance. The light can be set to flash or remain steady, depending on the specific needs of the operation.

Overall, the Helicopter Approach Path Indicator light and HAPI system are essential tools for ensuring safe and efficient helicopter operations. They provide pilots with clear visual cues and help reduce the risk of accidents during approach and landing.
